We have up to 20 supervisors at EACS, providing one two hour supervision group a month to a group of 4 counsellors on placement. The groups are eclectic, with both counsellors and supervisors coming from a variety of training modalities. This provides a rich mixture of approach and experience, allowing our practitioners to share and learn from one another’s different style.
The aim of the groups is to provide clinical supervision
of the client work undertaken by our counsellors at EACS. It is not a training
supervision and we therefore require all our counsellors to have an external
supervisor in the modality of their training.
Our supervisors receive a modest fee for running the groups.
We encourage supervisors to attend supervisor committee meetings and practice and ethics meetings (6 in total per annum). As well as providing a space for mutual support and an exchange of ideas, these meetings are important in helping supervisors keep abreast of news at EACS and new policies and practices. The meetings also give supervisors an opportunity to meet colleagues and to be a part of the EACS community.
Supervision vacancies arise from time to time and anyone wishing to register an interest in supervising for EACS should contact Judi Keshet–Orr ( or call the office on 020 8998 3361) and provide an up to date CV. We try to offer a spread of days and times to our counsellors and so our supervision groups run from Monday to Friday daytime or evening and on Saturday morning. EACS has limited room capacity and so we prefer where possible that our supervisors are able to offer a local venue of their own, usually in their own home. Nevertheless, some groups do take place on EACS premises, usually at ‘off peak’ times.
