Placements: 1:1 Counselling &
Psychotherapy

EACS welcomes applications throughout the year and holds recruitment workshops in small groups on a regular basis as the need arises.  Prior to submitting an application, we ask prospective applicants to give careful consideration to their ability to meet the following requirements:

Training / Experience / Qualifications

  • Preference is given to students who are on a 3-4 year BACP or 4-5 year UKCP/BPS accredited course.

  • We generally give preference to counsellors who have commenced at least their 2nd year of diploma/MSc or equivalent and who bring a minimum of 50 hours experience of face to face counselling, gained in an agency setting or similar.  However, those with fewer hours who have gained other solid, relevant experience are also welcome to apply.

Commitment

You will need to:

  • Commit to a minimum 2 years’ clinical placement.  Our clients can come for up to a year, hence the longer placement commitment than in some organisations.  Counsellors later wishing to continue beyond the normal placement period can do so with prior agreement by the management team.

  • Attend a 5-hour induction (usually on a Monday) prior to seeing clients at EACS.

  • Be available to work with a minimum caseload of 3 clients on an ongoing basis, beginning with 1 client in the 1st month.

  • Participate in a monthly 2-hour, small group clinical supervision at EACS.  Attendance every month is expected.  Dates are agreed in advance between the supervisor and group.  All EACS supervisors are highly experienced qualified practitioners who have also undertaken bespoke supervision training and qualification.

  • Counsellors will also need to arrange independent supervision in their modality of training to ensure they meet the minimum requirements of their course and professional body.

  • We also require that counsellors in training are in therapy while on placement at EACS.

  • All counsellors are asked to sign a contract confirming their commitment to meeting EACS’ attendance, clinical and administrative requirements.

The Benefits

  • Challenging and rewarding work with a highly reputable counselling and psychotherapy service.

  • EACS provides comfortable counselling rooms and is a safe and supportive place to be.

  • Medium to long term work provides the practitioner with the opportunity to work in-depth relationally, contextually, and developmentally.

  • Free monthly small group clinical supervision.  You will have an opportunity to gain a rich experience by working with other practitioners who may be practicing in different orientations, approaches and experience levels.

  • EACS counsellors can attend our bi-annual continuing professional development workshops at a substantially reduced rate.

  • We support a community feel at EACS and encourage counsellors to attend our CPD workshops and annual Christmas Party with free wine, nibbles, hot buffet and raffle.

  • Once qualified, access to low-cost private room rental for EACS and ex-EACS members subject to room availability.
